COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learning how to code at a young age can truly set up your child for a lifetime of success! This session focuses on introducing students to those programming skills using block programming. The session uses OzoTown by OzoBlock to develop programming skills in OzoBlockly. Students will learn to follow lines, turn at intersections, use timing, sequencing, and debugging – all with a virtual Ozobot. No prior experience needed and the learning can continue even after the course is over.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Mobile Device with Camera

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Love scavenger hunts? Engage your spatial-thinking and treasure-hunting skills while learning how to collect, analyze, and visualize geospatial data during this fun independent, local holiday-themed scavenger hunt. A mobile device with camera (iphone, Android, iPad, etc.) is all that is needed for students to photograph and document items on the scavenger hunt list. We will introduce participants to the geospatial techonology used, provide a list of items to collect (via camera) and instructions on how they will be uploaded to a scavenger hunt map. Check back at the Holiday 4 Stem page to see the collected data on a heat map!

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Geared towards students up to 7th grade. Please keep the holiday spirit in mind and remember that we want to make sure to be fair to our younger participants. If you are at an advanced level, please join the advanced game.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Join us in a LIVE game of Kahoot about Soft Skills needed in the workplace. We will be hosting both BASIC and ADVANCED sessions of the game so that our younger participants have an opportunity to play with their peers. Hint, Hint, there might even be a prize on the line! Additionally, a self-paced Kahoot using STEM themed questions will be launched on Dec 14 here.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Come listen to “Twas the STEM Before Christmas” and then learn different ways to encode a message while we decode holiday puzzles. Encoding and decoding are a fundamental part of cybersecurity, not to mention, fun ways to send secret messages to your friends!

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Geared towards students who are in elementary school or uncomfortable playing against high schoolers and adults.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Join us in a LIVE game of Pictionary, using STEM themed drawings. We will be hosting both BASIC and ADVANCED sessions of the game so that our younger participants have an opportunity to play with their peers. Drop in anytime, the game will be ongoing during the entire event!
